Dear Marine Embassy Guard Association (MEGA) members,
On 23 April 2022, I was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of the Marine Embassy Guard Association (MEGA). This took placeduring an organizational meeting where we introduced the newly elected members of the Board of Directors (BOD). If you did not see the recent Elections Results announcement, please click here.
I am honored to accept this position and all of the responsibilities that come with it, and would like to thank my fellow board members for placing their trust and confidence in me. Over the next year, I am looking forward to working with the BOD as we continue to build and enhance our association to better serve our members.
As the previous Vice-Chairman, I enjoyed developing efficiencies in the way we communicate and work together as a Board, how we tracked our progress and set the stage for us to be successful moving forward. In the coming weeks and months, please keep an eye on the MEGA website, MEGA News and email communications for information about a variety of initiatives we are working on, including our 2023 Reunion in San Diego, closer ties with the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG), an improved member experience and more.
One of the most important lessons I learned over the past year is that despite an impressive amount of experience and talent, the BOD needs members who are willing to step up and help on the many committees that form MEGA’s backbone, including:
Membership
Communications
Website
Reunion
Ship’s Store
Elections
Scholarship
Historical Archives
If you have a desire to become active in MEGA by joining a committee, feel free to contact me or any board member. As you are well aware, it takes a team to accomplish a mission! I also invite all members who have questions or concerns to reach out to me by email at chairman@embassymarine.org or by phone at (561) 308-3177.
In closing, I wish to thank our outgoing members of the Board for their time and commitment to MEGA. Without an effective and active Board, MEGA would not function. I would also like to thank outgoing Chairman Bob Lighty for his tireless devotion to the organization over the past two years and setting us up for success.
Thank you for supporting MEGA.
Sincerely,
John Burke Chairman of the Board
