It is with great sadness to report that during the early morning hours of Monday, 8 June, we lost a Marine at Detachment Naples.

Early Monday morning, Sergeant Alexander Curlin was found in the street outside of his residence by U.S. Consulate General security personnel. The initial assessment is that he fell from his apartment and passed away before emergency services could arrive. Local authorities responded to the scene almost immediately and Post One alerted the Marines who quickly responded to the Consulate. The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities and NCIS.

Sergeant Curlin was a friend to many and an exceptional NCO who could be relied upon to lift the spirits of those around him with his wry humor. He will be missed.

While we begin to mourn, MCESG’s priority is to assist the Marines of Detachment Naples and Sergeant Curlin’s family and friends. Mission Italy, MCESG, Region 5 staff, other detachments, the Navy Chaplain Corps, and NCIS are but a few of the organizations and individuals who are working diligently to care for the friends, family, and Marines Sergeant Curlin has left behind.

Please continue to keep Sergeant Curlin, his family and friends, and the Detachment Naples Marines in your thoughts and prayers
